March 2007 Contra Costa Wine Group
Newsletter
Our last meeting was one of the
biggest of the year and was very successful. There seemed to be
around 60 people in attendance, although it was very difficult to
count noses. It was held at the beautiful home of Tom & Donna
Powers in Martinez. A great spread of hors d’oeuvres was laid out
for the enjoyment of all. Many thanks to Tom & Donna for a great
evening.
First Place winners from the January
professional judging again poured and briefly explained to all how
they made their award-winning wine. Handouts were prepared by all
of our winners that aided greatly in giving us as much information
as possible about what “special treatment(s)” they did to create
their wine.
Special thanks are given again to
Peter and Martha Dragovich for ordering and organizing all of the
award presentations to all (BOS through HM) of the winners from the
January judging. They did a great job!
I received an email from the Amador
County Fair officials encouraging home winemakers to enter their
competition. Your wines must have come from grapes that were in the
Sierra Foothills Appellation. They are accepting entries between
April 16th and May 18th. Enter
amadorcountyfair.com for further
information, guidelines and entry forms. (Note that you must
manually enter this information into your computer. The website on
the previous line is not a “link” and does not work!)
Our next meeting will
be strictly a social evening with no formal presentation being
made. Note that our Program Committee is hard at work planning and
arranging for programs for the remainder of the year.
The next meeting will
be held Friday, March 30th at the home of Bob and
Mary Lu Burchard in Martinez. I’m sure that there will be many
winemaking discussions during this meeting, so I would encourage you
all to attend. Special Request:
BRING A CHAIR WITH YOU!
The “meeting” will start at around 7:30 p.m. Don’t
forget. It’s Friday, March 30th.
See you at the meeting. Bring a
bottle of your own wine (or a commercial one if you haven’t made
wine yet) along with a wine glass.
